I'm sure you all know by now that:
1) I love Del Shannon and his music.
2) I love his hometown of Coopersville, MI.
3) I go back every chance I get.
Well, in just two weeks I'm headed back up there again and this time is going to be truly special. Unlike all the other times I have made the trek up there to visit my new friends in town, my upcoming visit is going to be stuffed full with memories to be made. I'm so excited it's ridiculous.
The wonderful thing about the internet is the capability of connecting with people from around the world who have the same interests as you. Nevermind the occasional weirdo here and there, most of them are people that you could easily hang out with on a day-to-day basis (truth be told, I met my best friend of 11 years online). With that said, this upcoming trip to Coopersville is going to be a time to connect face-to-face with the people I have grown close to in cyberspace.
Fellow Del Shannon fans and old time rock and roll fans are descending upon Coopersville for several events. The one I am most excited about is my friend, James' concert, The Del Shannon Show with James Popenhagen. James is a close family friend of Del's family and brings his energy to the stage during his tribute shows. I. Can't. Wait! Then, we have the Del Shannon Car Show a couple of days later where our very own Percy the Hearse will make her debut appearance in a car show.
Of course I'm stoked about the concert and the car show, but I think I'm most excited to be surrounded by the people who I have chatted with online and on the phone. People that I have become totally connected to that I can't wait to have right in front of me! One friend is even coming from Australia and I can't wait to throw a hug around his neck (and a Chicago-style deep dish pizza in his hands). Between the concert, car show, and getting to hang out with my cyber friends, this is going to be one epic trip.
The only part I'm already dreading...is having to say goodbye.
